Before I had my son, I had no clue everything I would need on a daily basis and what should be in my diaper bag or not. Over the last 5 months, I learned what our everyday essentials are. I hope that this list might help if you’re a new or an expectant mom wondering what to pack in your diaper bag.
I’ve learned that as soon as you get home, you should restock your diaper bag with a clean outfit, diapers, wipes etc. That way when you’re ready to leave next time, it’s ready to go and you’re not scrambling at the last minute to pack everything up.

Diaper Bag|I really wanted a diaper bag that dad would feel comfortable wearing too. The classic black with the touch of gold and brown gives this bag just the right amount of detail. The built-in changing pad is so helpful and it has tons of space with a huge zipper opening.
Diapers|This is an obvious one. We used Pampers Swaddlers in the hospital & have exclusively kept with them ever since. The line that changes color when baby is wet was very helpful the first few weeks being a new mom.
Water Wipes|Water Wipes are amazing! They are 99.9% pure water, plus 0.1% grapefruit seed extract. Wow! Even the “sensitive” wipes have turned my son’s skin red before. But these, I’ll happily pack in my diaper bag, they are totally chemical-free!
Hydro Flask|Love my Hydro Flask! Seriously is the best water bottle out there. I love the large size and the easy open lid. However, the best part is that it keeps the temperature of the liquid inside hot or cold for long periods of time. As a breastfeeding mama, I am always thirsty so this is really a nice thing to have when I am parched.
Nursing Cover|This cover is a car-seat cover but I also use it for nursing. Is perfectly gender neutral and lightweight. It has made nursing in public so much easier.
Hand Sanitizer|Since becoming a mom I have become obsessed with hand sanitizer. I feel like you cant have too much of this stuff. Purell wipes are also great. They are easy to pack as well as pulling out wipes to sanitize shopping carts etc. quickly.
Lotion| All that hand sanitizing can be drying on my skin. I personally like this lotion from The Honest Co. It is really moisturizing and leaves my hands soft and smooth. Plus its totally chemical-free!
Lip Balm|This is a new product I recently picked up and I am loving it. It is totally hydrating and keeps my lips moisturized for a long period of time.
Wallet|Again, this is an obvious one. I don’t like to carry any other bags other than my diaper bag so this is one of my essentials along with my keys.
Teether| We received this wooden rattle as a gift. There are similar ones on Etsy and Little Sapling Toys. These are also great for entertaining.
Burp Cloths|I didn’t realize how many of these I would go through. I’m so glad they come in packs. I use them all the time for spit ups. I even use them for spills, as a changing pad, and for baby slobber. These are one of my must-have items!
Snacks|As a breastfeeding mama, I don’t go anywhere without snacks. These Cliff bars always hold me over. Snacks are going to come in handy when my little one gets older and wants to munch on something as well.
Extra Clothes|My son is still at that age where he can wear “Coveralls”. I like to pack these because I don’t have to worry about forgetting to pack a onise or a pair of pants. Depending on the weather, I will also bring along a jacket.
Beanie|Living in CO. the weather is always changing. I like to keep a beanie in our diaper bag just in case we need it. It’s also great to have when heading up to the mountains.
Socks|Socks are another one of my must-haves. When we are out and about, socks keep little one’s toes nice and warm. And I don’t know how many times I have looked down and one sock was missing so I’m always glad to have extra in our diaper bag.
Pacifer|When falling asleep my son loves to play with these and soothe himself to sleep. He also loves his Wubbanub.
Swaddles|I absolutely love these swaddles I get compliments on them everywhere I go. They are very versatile, fold up great to pack in your bag and they are lightweight, great if you need something to lay your little one down on or as a quick nursing cover or even as a shade cover over your stroller or carseat while your little one naps. Whats even better is, they don’t fade and are soft and stay soft with every wash.
